Huntington Beach Council Mulling Amendments To City Charter: Report

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Huntington Beach officials will discuss possible amendments to its city charter, including changing several government roles from elected positions to appointed ones, during its June 21 meeting, the Daily Pilot reported.

City officials will discuss the possibility of having the city attorney, city clerk and city treasurer become elected positions. The Pilot reported that Huntington Beach is the only city in Orange County that holds elections for its city attorney.

Michael Gates, the current city attorney, was first elected in 2014.

If the City Council does amend Huntington Beach's charter, it must be put to a vote by voters in November, the paper reported.
