Longtime Westminster Crossing Guard Killed In Collision
The crossing guard was behind the wheel of a car and not on duty at the time of the collision, Westminster police said.
WESTMINSTER, CA — The Westminster Police Department is asking for the public's help to determine what caused a fatal car collision Tuesday that killed a longtime crossing guard.
Robert Polino Avila, 77, wasn't on duty at the time of the collision but was behind the wheel of one of the cars involved in the incident, police said.
The crash happened around 5:35 a.m. in the 14500 block of Goldenwest Street. Avila was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A passenger in Avila's car and the driver of the other car involved in the collision were sent to a local hospital with unknown injuries, the Westminster Police Department said.
