Seal Beach Police On Alert For 4/20 DUI Patrols

Seal Beach Police asked residents to celebrate responsibly and prioritize the safety of themselves and others.

SEAL BEACH, CA — Seal Beach Police warned those celebrating 4/20 in the city that driving while high can still land someone a DUI.

Police asked residents to celebrate responsibly and prioritize the safety of themselves and others.

“Whether it is on 4/20 or any other day, it is unsafe and illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana,” Chief Michael Henderson said. “It’s important to make responsible choices, especially when it comes to getting behind the wheel.”

Those planning to enjoy 4/20 festivities should plan ahead and designate a sober driver or consider staying in. Studies have shown that THC, an active ingredient in marijuana, can slow reaction times and make it more difficult to judge distances and keep a steady position in lanes.

First-time DUI charges can cost an average of $13,500 in fines and drivers could get their licenses suspended if convicted.
