Over the years, multiple small planes have crashed in Seal Beach, which lies in the flight path of nearby Long Beach and Torrance airports.
In 2004, a homemade plane piloted by a retired "Top Gun" instructor narrowly missed two houses in the College Park West neighborhood, killing the pilot. In 1985, a twin-engine Beechcraft carrying two people was forced to land on Seal Beach Boulevard dramatically clipping a telephone pole and tree, tearing off its wing. One person suffered moderate injuries in that crash.
