16 Santa Clara County ZIP Codes Among Nation's Priciest In 2024: Study

LOS ALTOS, CA — The Bay Area is home to the nation's most expensive ZIP code and remains America's priciest metro area for the 8th year running, according to a new analysis. Several ZIP codes in Los Altos, Saratoga, Palo Alto, Los Gatos and Cupertino made the top 50.

Real estate data firm PropertyShark crunched the latest numbers for this year, analyzing residential transactions that closed between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, including condos, co-ops, single and two-family homes. Researchers then calculated median sale prices, rounded to the nearest $1,000, and ranked the top 100 priciest ZIP codes across the nation.

Due to multiple ties, 121 ZIP codes made this year's list, with California accounting for a whopping 80 entries on the list. New York state was a distant second, with 19 ZIP codes among the most expensive.

Among the seven California ZIP codes to crack the top 10, Atherton maintained its title as the priciest ZIP code in the United States, despite a noticeable dip in the median sale price.

"After three consecutive years of price gains pushed the billionaire enclave past the $8 million mark, Atherton logged a 5% downtick this year," PropertyShark writes. "That resulted in a $400,000 median sale price decrease that brought the San Mateo County community back to 2022 pricing levels. Still, 2024 was Atherton's eighth consecutive year at the top."

In the South Bay, Santa Clara County had the second-highest concentration of ZIP codes on the list, with 16, trailing only Los Angeles County. Los Altos' 90402 and 94024 ZIP codes ranked 11th and 12th overall, followed by Saratoga's 95070 in 15th place. Palo Alto's 94301 and Los Gatos' 95030 placed 20th and 21st respectively.

In Marin County, ZIP codes in Ross (94957) and Stinson Beach (94970) made the top 20, ranking 16th and 18th.
