Email Scammer Poses As Sheriff's Staff, San Mateo County Warns
Two victims in Portola Valley and Ladera reported being scammed out of money this week from suspects using fraudulent documents.

PORTOLA VALLEY, CA — A warning was issued from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department Wednesday of a probable scam using fraudulent court documents through email messages sent to victims. Two separate incidents were reported in Portola Valley and Ladera on Monday and Tuesday.
The suspects wanted on suspicion of grand theft remain at large.
The scam involves the email sender identifying his or herself as a sheriff's office sergeant and office lieutenant in an attempt to retrieve money.
