Police Calls: A Hot Prowl, a Shoplifter & A Sinkhole
Los Altos Police arrest a man on felony warrants, a 13-year-old surprises a would-be burglar, two more tows take place at Foothill Crossing, and a whole lot more from the police log of July 10.

Thursday turned out to be a busy one for the Los Altos Police Department, according to Agent Brian Jeffrey. Police picked up one man wanted on two felony warrants for some serious crimes. There were two burglaries, including the hot prowl that sounded scary. and a sink hole opened up in one of downtown's parking plazas.

Felony Warrant Arrest

- 6:50., N. San Antonio Road & El Camino Expressway. Police making a car stop found the subject had two no-bail felony warrants: Willful discharge a firearm with gross negligence, and the second warrant was for assault with a deadly weapon and assault and battery, said Los Altos Police Agent Brian Jeffrey; Arrested was Roger Vargez, 28, of San Jose, who booked into San Jose main jail.
Residential Burglary
- 1:01 p.m., 911, 600 block of Riverside, Agent Jeffrey said aman forced entry of the front door. The 13 year-year-old boy who lived there, unexpectedly encountered him, and the subject fled the scene. Nothing was taken from the house. Police checked the neighborhood for evidence of other burglaries.
- 1:50 p.m., 600 block of Riverside Drive, police checking the neighborhood following the first burglary, found another residence with its front door ajar, Agent Jerffrey said. It looked like the suspect had forced entry, and ransacked the residence, taking a small electronic device. There was no suspect information. Police suspect the two burglaries are related.
Petty Theft
- 1:47 p.m., 690 Los Altos Rancho, 1:45 p.m. An employee at Andronico’s market had observe a woman taking various food items. After she left the store without paying, the employee detained her and called the police, agent Jeffrey said. The suspect was Laura Betty Gonzales, 48, of Sunnyvale. She was given a citation to appear in court and released.

- 10:42 a.m., Loyola Drive and Eastbrook Lane, be on the lookout request from Santa Clara County Sheriff, information relayed to patrol units for (the individual returned)
Identity Theft
- 10:46 p.m., walk-in, 300 block of Sunkist Lane, identity theft, report taken
Disturbance
- 1:33 p.m., 911, 200 block of Third Street, disturbing the peace, both parties contacted, civil issue, no police assistance needed
- 5:49 p.m., 911, disturbance, subject has left the business, officers responded and contacted subject
General Tow
- 1:52 p.m., 2310 Homestead Road (Foothill Crossing Shopping Center), private property tow
- 3:41 p.m., 2310 Homestead Road, private property tow
Reckless Driver
-3:28 p.m., 911, Covington Road and El Monte Avenue, report of reckless driver, information only

- 5:51 p.m., 385 First Street, report of a sink hole in the parking plaza, public works responding
Suspicious Person/Vehicle
- 9:26 p.m., 1100 block of Rose Circle, suspicious subject, information only
- 10:30 p.m., 911, Dalehurst Avenue and Morton Avenue, suspicious vehicle, officers responded, information only
- 11:19 p.m., 800 block of Arroyo Road, suspicious vehicle, officers responded, information only
