7 People, Several Pups Rescued From San Jose's Guadalupe River
Rescue boats successfully reached seven people and a litter of puppies stranded Sunday as waters raged along the Guadalupe River.

SAN JOSE, CA — San Jose firefighters worked quickly to rescue seven people and several dogs from the Guadalupe River as heavy rains and rising waters Sunday.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene in Guadalupe River Park around 1 p.m. as waters roared and winds whipped through the area. Fire officials said multiple people and dogs were stranded on a "rapidly diminishing island" in the river, sharing videos of crews deploying boats to cross the fast-running water.

The fire department told Bay City News that crews were looking into reports of a car seen in the water near Taylor Street and Highway 87, which rescue teams discovered unoccupied. Firefighters soon spotted three people on a small island a few hundred feet away.

After reaching the island and rescuing those stranded, crews discovered another four people stuck further down the river, along with three dogs and nine puppies. Fire officials said no people or animals were injured during the incident.
