Amazing Before, After Photos Show Stray SJ Dog Now Ready Adoption

The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA thanks a concerned Silver Creek Valley resident who called them after days of trying to catch Buddy.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — A stray dog that was struggling to survive in the foothills of the Silver Creek Valley neighborhood in San Jose has been nursed back to health and is ready for adoption thanks to a concerned resident, according to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA.

The resident called the PHS/SPCA because she was familiar with the organization's services and had been attempting to capture the terrier for nearly two weeks.

The dog was trapped on March 30 and taken to the San Jose Animal Care and Control shelter for four days, PHS/SPCA officials said.

Volunteers believe the dog was someone's pet because he is house-trained and knows basic commands, but no one came to pick him up. The dog, named Buddy by the neighbor who had been leaving food out for him, was
released to the PHS/SPCA.

When Buddy arrived at the PHS/SPCA, he was matted, skinny and covered in ticks, according to the nonprofit. He was anesthetized so that staff could shave his fur and remove the ticks.

After more than a month of medical and behavioral treatment at the PHS/SPCA, Buddy is now ready for adoption and is available for a $120 fee at the organization's adoption center in Burlingame, located at 1450 Rollins Road.

Buddy is neutered, micro-chipped and fully vaccinated. PHS/SPCA staff said that they estimate he is about 2 years old and a Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier.

Buddy has specific adoption requirements that the staff in Burlingame can provide to anyone interested in giving him a new home.

Buddy was treated through the donor-funded Hope Program, which provides a second chance to rescued animals and saves the lives of more than 150 animals a month on average, PHS/SPCA officials said.
