UPDATE: Downed Tree Snarls Highway 17 Traffic

Both northbound lanes of state Highway 17 are now open, and one lane of the road in the southbound direction is also open.

The California Highway Patrol says both northbound lanes of state Highway 17 are now open, and one lane of the road in the southbound direction is also open.

Los Gatos Police reopened the southbound onramp to Highway 17 from South Santa Cruz Avenue about 1:15 p.m.

Debris from the 3 feet diameter tree remains in one southbound lane.

CalTrans crews are on scene helping to clean up the mess.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY - A fallen tree on state Highway 17 blocked all lanes of traffic for a short period of time this morning.

CHP officers reported all southbound lanes of traffic at Summit Road blocked about 10:19 a.m. Thursday morning, and said northbound traffic was getting around the incident by driving on the shoulder.

CHP reports from the scene initially estimated the tree to be three feet in diameter.

By 11:17 am Santa Clara County Fire personnel had cleared one lane in each direction.
