Hernandez admitted to taking medication around noon that day, according to Loza. Investigators later found Hydrocodone, a narcotic pain reliever that may lead to drowsiness or dizziness, which belonged to Hernandez, Loza said.

Six of the seven people inside the Lexus admitted they smoked marijuana while the vehicle was traveling, Loza said.

The 19-year-old driver was speeding south on the freeway north of Molera Road where she threw a cigarette out of her window, then collided with the front of a 2013 Mazda 3 driven by Malliarodakis, Loza said.

Everyone in the Lexus was transported to a hospital, the spokesman said.

Hernandez was later transferred to Stanford Hospital to be treated for a lacerated liver, hip pain, pelvic fractures and other major injuries, Loza said.

Hernandez is from Texas and has a driver's license from there, according to Loza. The vehicle is registered to another person with the same Texas address as Hernandez, Loza said.

Scott and another passenger were taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose for major injuries, according to Loza.

Sarah Cameron, 19, of Santa Cruz, was treated at a hospital then booked into Monterey County Jail for allegedly hiding marijuana and Ecstasy pills in a makeup bag later found in a field, Loza said.

Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury, gross vehicular manslaughter, possession of controlled substances and not providing proof of insurance at a collision, according to Loza.

She is being held in lieu of $3 million bail, according to jail records.

If Hernandez doesn't post bail she will be transferred to Monterey County Jail, Loza said.
