Elderly Woman Injured In DUI Crash Dies: San Jose Police
The 84-year-old died Feb. 28 from injuries suffered in a Feb. 4 crash on Bernal Road at U.S. 101. Police suspect the other driver of DUI.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — A victim who succumbed to her injuries resulting from a DUI-related traffic collision that took place in San Jose in early February has been identified as a city resident, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office. Finis Uyeda was pronounced deceased at a hospital on Feb. 28, just a day after celebrating her 84th birthday, San Jose police said.
On Feb. 4 at 9:56 p.m., police responded to a major injury traffic collision on Bernal Road at the northbound U.S. Highway 101 off-ramp intersection, police said.
When officers arrived, they found both drivers in critical condition. Both were transferred to a hospital, according to police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Uyeda was driving her white 2018 RAV4 going north to exit at Bernal Road and continued into the intersection when a black 2013 Hyundai, traveling south on Bernal Road, ran a red light and collided with her vehicle, police said.
The driver of the Hyundai, 53-year-old San Jose resident Elizabeth Marie Armendariz, was arrested and booked into the county jail on suspicion of felony DUI, according to officers.

No information is being given at this time when Armendariz's next court date will be.
San Jose police will submit the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for review.
Police said that this was the 11th fatal collision on San Jose city streets this year.
