Fallen South Bay Tree Injures Three Hikers
Authorities had to use cellphone-pinging technology to locate the victims before they could be rescued, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.
SAN JOSÉ, CA — Three hikers were injured after a tree fell in South San José's Almaden Quicksilver County Park on Monday morning, said officials.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office responded about 9:53 a.m. to reports of injured hikers on the park's 7.9-mile Mine Hill Trail, Sgt. Russell Davis said.

Deputies, fire officials and county park rangers assisted the hikers. All three were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
A 50-foot oak tree that was about 40 feet from the trail struck the hikers, The Chronicle reports.

The tree had been cleared and the trail was reopened as of Monday afternoon, the report said.
