Large Tree On Loma Alta Avenue and Los Gatos Boulevard Being Removed
Removal comes after July incident in which low-hanging branch fell on utility pole, almost hitting car underneath.
Remember the large Valley Oak tree at the intersection of Loma Alta Avenue and Los Gatos Boulevard whose low-hanging branch almost fell on top of a driver in July?
Well, it's being removed by the Town of Los Gatos. Work to cut down the tree began Tuesday and continues Wednesday and Thursday.
Signs are posted around the busy intersection to alert drivers not to park on Loma Alta Avenue while the work was being done.
According to town staff, the tree work is being performed by the town’s contractor.
A complete arborist evaluation was performed and it was recommended for removal, as the tree was deemed hazardous and dangerous.

The Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department did not receive any inquiries or letters of protest challenging the removal process, staff said.
West Coast Arborists employees on July 11 safely removed one of its large branches after it fell on the utility pole that reader Angelica Fernandez said had almost hit her car when it fell down.
"I was on the stop waiting to make a right turn in the intersection of Loma Alta Avenue and Los Gatos Boulevard when I hear the tree falling down behind me. Thank God it did not hit me. The tree next to it should be cut too for our safety. I see many people walking on the streets," Fernandez wrote in our post about the incident in July.
The Town of Los Gatos hired the Stockton-based company in July to trim the tree.
