Los Gatos Patch Whiz Kid Jason Bassett Attains Eagle Scout Rank

Eagle Scout service project renovated fire pit area within Youth Park behind Los Gatos High School.

Los Gatos Patch Whiz Kid Jason Bassett, 18, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

A member of Troop 2, formerly Troop 501, sponsored by the Los Gatos Rotary Club, Jason is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Tom Richards.

Each candidate must earn at least 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project to earn the Eagle Scout Award.

Jason chose to renovate the fire pit area located within the Youth Park behind Los Gatos High School where he directed the construction of two new masonry fire pits and the installation of fireproof ground cover.

The project required hundreds of hours and significant financial resources that were generously donated by youth and adults within the scouting community and from numerous local service clubs.

Jason served Troop 2 as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, honor guard chairman, webmaster, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.

Jason is a member of Calvary Church in Los Gatos where he participated in the youth group and went on numerous mission trips to Mexico, Guatemala and the Navajo Nation.

He was active in the the marching band and drama program at Leigh High School, where he graduated last spring.

He recently began his studies in business administration as a freshman at Santa Clara University.

He is the son of proud parents Scott Bassett of Los Gatos, and Kathy Tregembo of San Jose.

Jason's Court of Honor will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Los Gatos United Methodist Church. 111 Church St.
