Los Gatos Theatre Set To Have New Operator

LOS GATOS, CA — The historic Los Gatos Theatre is set to have a new operator.

CineLux Theatres is set to operate and manage the theater on behalf of the town of Los Gatos, pending approval of the town council at Tuesday’s meeting.

The town recently took over stewardship of the historic Los Gatos Theatre after the Goetz family, the theater's owners, donated it to the town last November.

The family purchased the building in 2011. The theater is over 100 years old, and has survived destruction from multiple fires and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Following renovations, the theater reopened in 2014.

CineLux has over 55 years of experience running theatres and is the largest independent regional theatre operator in the South Bay, according to a staff report. IT has also successfully acquired and operated seven previously closed or failed theatres.

The contract with the town is proposed for five years and the town would receive five percent of the theatre’s annual gross revenue.
