The team behind San Francisco's Presidio Social Club restaurant are opening a new eaterie, The Catamount, in Old Town Los Gatos.

SAN FRANCISCO PENINSULA -- The team behind San Francisco’s Presidio Social Club restaurant say that their new eaterie, The Catamount, is opening in Old Town Los Gatos in April, taking the spot formerly occupied for 31 years by the California Cafe.

The restaurant, with a menu featuring modern American cuisine, plans to offer dinner daily and expects to roll out lunch and brunch after opening. The owners say the menu will offer "familiar favorites with a creative edge," utilizing local produce and sustainable seafood. Menu highlights including large bold salads, entrees of premium chops and steaks, and the Steam of the Day – a daily selection of steamed shellfish at peak season.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this dynamic and engaged neighborhood,” owner Ray Tang said in a statement. This space has been beloved by the community for decades and we want to honor its legacy by providing the update it deserves.”

The restaurant's wine program is expected to feature over 100 varietals with roughly 70 percent from local and domestic wineries, and 30 percent international varietals. There's expected to be a strong emphasis on highlighting the Santa Cruz Mountain region that has been producing superior wines for years.

The owners say the bar will feature "refined classics, expertly crafted with premium spirits and produced with speed and simplicity."

“We don’t want our guests to wait 15 minutes for a cocktail,” Tang explained. “Drinks will be well-balanced, tasty, and served in a timely fashion.”

The 10,000 square foot space has been transformed into a hangout with a variety of rooms to accommodate private or semi-private dining for groups of all sizes in order to meet Tang’s vision of a flexible restaurant space that can be transformed to larger or more intimate areas, by offering a space designed to fit various occasions.

The Catamount, located at 50 University Ave., Los Gatos, is expected to open in April, with an exact date to be announced.
