New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is proud to announce that they are the recipient of a $190,787 Museums for America Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This grant will be used to support the continuation of the Los Gatos History Project (LGHP) for the next three years, and assure that local history can be cataloged and shared with the people of Los Gatos and the wider Bay Area. This competitive grant allows NUMU the opportunity to continually care for its permanent collections and update its history galleries.

“By successfully navigating this very competitive, prestigious grant process, we have demonstrated that our collections are significant on a national level,” says NUMU Executive Director, Ami Davis. “With support from the County of Santa Clara, NUMU has already cataloged more than one-third of its diverse collection of 3,000+ artifacts, archives, and artwork tied to the history of Los Gatos and the surrounding communities as part of the Los Gatos History Project. The NUMU team, made up of highly-qualified museum professionals, can now continue to care for this collection of historic items entrusted to us and make them accessible to the public.”
The goal of the Los Gatos History Project, launched in September 2020, is to tell untold stories of Los Gatos and surrounding communities through an exploration of NUMU’s permanent art and history collections. This grant will guarantee that NUMU can properly compensate all of the talented people that make multi-stage projects like LGHP possible, including museum staff, interns, and subject matter experts.
