Santa Clara County Board To Consider Waiving Business Permit Fees
The Board of Supervisors will discuss the proposal for small business affected by the pandemic on Tuesday.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will consider allocating $5.5 million Tuesday to the county's Department of Environmental Health, allowing the county to waive permit fees for small businesses.
Businesses like restaurants, gyms and hair salons would be among those eligible for the fee waivers, Supervisors Susan Ellenberg and Cindy Chavez said Monday during a briefing on the proposal.

The funding would offset the permit fees that the Department of Environmental Health would normally collect to allow businesses to operate within the county.
The two supervisors said the proposal's intent is to relieve the financial burden already placed on small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, since many of them have been closed or operating in a limited manner for nearly a year.

Small businesses also have access to permit and license fee waivers from the state, the two noted.
The board will consider the fee waiver proposal during the afternoon session of its Tuesday meeting, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
