Santa Clara Teen Accused In San Jose Home Invasion

Police said a search warrant led investigators to the stolen items, drugs, a loaded gun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

SAN JOSE, CA — San Jose detectives have arrested an 18-year-old from Santa Clara on suspicion of committing a home invasion robbery, according to police.

In a news release Tuesday, police said officers were called to a home on the 2000 block of Newton Avenue on reports of a home invasion shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday. Officers learned the victim had interrupted a burglary in progress at his home and was pistol-whipped in the face by the suspect.

Police said the suspect escaped the home carrying many of the victim's personal belongings.

Robbery detectives took over the investigation and were able to identify a suspect in the case, obtaining arrest and search warrants. The detectives worked with several units to execute the warrants at the suspect's home in Santa Clara, where police said they recovered items stolen during the robbery, along with drugs, a loaded gun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Police identified the suspect Tuesday as Elias Ramirez Velo, 18, of Santa Clara. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. Detectives ask anyone with information about the robbery or similar incidents to contact investigators at 408-277-4166.
