9/11 Remembrance in California: Where You Can Take Part

The 15th Annual Day of Remembrance will be held across the state Sunday.

A series of remembrance ceremonies marking the 15th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon are planned throughout California for Sunday.

In Orange County, the bells of the San Juan Capistrano cathedral will chime for the lives lost in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the fields of Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 people were killed in the attacks, including a large number of first responders.

"We see it every single day in our fire services, in our military and Coast Guard," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said at a ceremony in Elysian Park on Friday. "We understand that when people put on a uniform and wear a badge, it's just theirs for a temporary moment in time. They become the guardian angels for each one of us, not knowing what may happen.
