Brush Fire In Malibu Charred 7 Acres
The fire was mostly out and firefighters were in mop-up mode, a fire dispatcher said.
MALIBU, CA ā A brush fire on Friday near Mulholland Highway and Kanan Dume Road close to Malibu charred about seven acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. about 6.6 miles north of Pacific Coast Highway, outside of the Malibu city limit. The fire prompted the closure of Kanan Road and a stretch of Mulholland Highway.
The Mulholland Fire was upgraded to a second-alarm fire shortly after 1 p.m. because of potential threats to homes downhill from the fire, according to the LACFD. A fixed-wing aircraft was also called to assist with water drops.

The bulk of the fire was under control by about 3:40 p.m., and by then the helicopters had been recalled, but one was later redeployed to assist in dousing hot spots as firefighters were in mop-up mode, a dispatcher said.
Kanan Road was reopened about 3:30 p.m., but Mulholland Highway remained closed east of Kanan, according to Malibu Emergency Services.
