California Wildlife Center Releases Red Tail Hawk in Malibu

A red tail hawk that was injured when it flew into a glass planter in Malibu was released back into the wild by the California Wildlife Center this week.

A video posted on the California Wildlife Center's Facebook page shows the female hawk being released into the wild.

The hawk flew into a glass planter, which had gap in it.

"Somehow the hawk had flown in the planter and slid down into the bottom," said Cindy Reyes, the CWC's executive director.

"We were able to get her out by pulling her up the glass. She had a little bit of tissue drama, bruising. She wasn't in any condition to be released at that point," Reyes said.

The hawk was released on Via Escondido in Malibu, according to Jonsie Ross, a Marine Mammal Coordinator.

"I’ve never seen one take off that strong. That hawk was ready to go. It’s pretty amazing that she was on her last leg when we took her in," Ross said.
