Dehydrated Hikers Rescued in Malibu Creek State Park

The group of hikers overextended themselves in a southwestern section of Malibu Creek State Park on Easter Day.

A group of five dehydrated hikers were brought to safety Sunday during an Easter Day hike in Malibu Creek State Park.

The call for help came in at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett.

It took Malibu Search and Rescue workers and Los Angeles County Firefighters about 90 minutes to find the hikers around the Bulldog Motorway and Castro Peak Motorway, Pickett said.

"The hike was more strenuous than they expected, they didn't have enough water and they went farther than they expected,'' he said.

The hike starts in Corral Canyon outside of Malibu and goes up into the Santa Monica Mountains near Agoura Hills.
