Development Proposal by U2's The Edge Removed from Coastal Commission Agenda
The Coastal Commission staff has recommended the project proposal be rejected.

The proposal by David Evans, better known as U2 guitarist The Edge, to build five large homes above Serra Canyon has been removed from the California Coastal Commission agenda one day before the hearing was supposed to take place in Chula Vista. The Coastal Commission staff had recommended the proposal be rejected.Â
Several times during the past few years, this item has been placed on the Coastal Commission agenda, only to be removed shortly before the hearing was supposed to take place.
Representatives for The Edge on this project could not immediately be reached for comment. The hearing is listed as "postponed" on the commission's online agenda. No further details are mentioned.

The five proposed houses range in size from 7,000 square feet to three that are more than 12,000 square feet. The Edge also wants to build a 1,600-foot access road, which requires city approval (the houses do not require this because they are proposed for a location just outside the city). The in 2009 chose to take no action on the road proposal until the Coastal Commission rules on the houses.
The Coastal Commission staff report states building the houses would cause significant disruption to environmentally sensitive habitat areas, "would not serve to protect public views, minimize landform alteration or ensure compatibility with the character of the surrounding area" and "will not avoid significant adverse effects, either individually or cumulatively, on coastal resources."
