Five Things You Need to Know: Feb. 10

The Malibu High School girls junior varsity and varsity basketball teams have home games this evening.

1.    Today was supposed to be the big hearing in Chula Vista on the proposal by U2's The Edge to build five large homes off Sweetwater Mesa Road above Serra Canyon. But the item was  Wednesday afternoon. This game of on the agenda/off the agenda has happened several times with this project during the past few years.

2.    Wednesday was the debut of the "Moms Talk" column featuring the Malibu Patch Moms Council. This week's topic is whether parents are pushing their children too hard. Take a look at the column , and give your input. Also, if you have a question on any subject for the Moms Council and other Malibu Patch readers, send it to malibumomscouncil@gmail.com.

3.    The  girls basketball teams are playing at home today against Villanova Prep. The junior varsity squad competes at 5:30 p.m. The varsity team will take the court at 7 p.m.

5.    Today is expected to be sunny with a high near 75, according to the National Weather Service. The northeast wind could reach 30 mph early in the day, and it is expected to decrease to 10 mph to 15 mph as the day progresses. The gusts could be as high as 45 mph. At night, clear skies are expected with a low near 48. The northeast wind is expected to move from 10 mph to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
