Five Things You Need to Know: Feb. 14

1.    Happy Valentine's Day to my girlfriend Pamela "Pammy" Ross. And a happy Valentine's Day to the people of Malibu. Ben Marcus has some ideas of  with your significant other if you're still scrambling to find something. One romantic option he does not include is the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

2.    Malibu teens Kylia Cassone and Brooke Schwartz will appear on Wheel of Fortune at 7:30 p.m. on KABC. It is “Teen Best Friends” week on the show. Kylia and Brooke have been friends since they were fifth-graders.

3.    As stated earlier, the City Council will meet at at 6:30 p.m. for the first session of February. At first glance, it appears the meeting's is free of controversy (so people can get home to watch Wheel of Fortune or spend some time with their significant other, or both). But this is Malibu. One agenda item is consideration of whether to allow the Public Safety Commission to host a bicycle safety workshop on a Saturday. The Sheriff's Department says this might not be a wise move. 4. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the traffic light at the intersection of Malibu Canyon Road and Civic Center Way will be out due to road maintenance. Southern California Edison, which is doing the work, will provide traffic control. Your best bet is to avoid the intersection, if possible, during the five-hour period.

5.    Your Valentine's Day forecast calls for mostly sunny and a high near 59 during the day, according to the National Weather Service. At night, it is expected to be mostly cloudy with a low near 46.
