Grab The Sunscreen, The UV Index Will Be High In Malibu This Week

The UV index in the greater Los Angeles area will remain extremely high through the weekend, meaning Angelenos are at risk of a nasty burn.

MALIBU, CA — Grab your shades and sunscreen, Angelenos, the ultraviolet index will be extremely high throughout the week.

Tuesday's ultraviolet index level in Malibu will be 11, according to AccuWeather. The UV index will remain between 11 and 12 through Sunday in Malibu, according to AccuWeather.

A very high exposure level reading of 10, or greater, means a fair- skinned person could suffer a sunburn in about four minutes if not protected.

Ultraviolet radiation is blamed for a host of health problems, including skin cancer and cataracts.

The high UV will come with high temperatures throughout the greater Los Angeles area as well. Tuesday will see a high of 73 degrees in the afternoon with low clouds in the morning. Wednesday and Thursday will bring a high of 78 degrees, while Friday will come back down closer to 70.

The weekend will stay fairly cool, as Friday and Saturday will see highs in the low 70s.

The coastal cities will be a bit cooler than their inland neighbors, but not by much. Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Long Beach and Malibu will all inch close to 80 degrees, while Los Angeles and its surrounding cities reach 90 degrees.

A high wind warning was in effect in parts of Los Angeles County from 6 p.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
