Knife Wielding Suspect Arrested in Malibu

A man who waved a knife at passerby and stabbed a door near the Malibu Pier before threatening people at the nearby Jack in the Box was arrested late last month.

The man, whose name was withheld by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, was arrested Feb. 22 near the Jack in the Box in the 23000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to Sgt. Mosquera of the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff's Station.

The man is accused of attempted robbery with a knife, possession of methamphetamine and brandishing a deadly weapon in the area around the Malibu Pier.

A witness, who was identified as a security guard for the pier, told investigators that the man was riding a motorcycle on PCH when he stopped near the pier and went down to the beach. The suspect returned from the beach and walked up to the guard, holding a knife.

The man yelled, "I'm trippping," and walked to the pier, where he stabbed a door with a knife before running across PCH to the Jack in the Box.

A Jack in the Box customer told investigators that he was ordering a meal at the counter when the suspect came up with a knife and mumbled, "Where are my keys? Give me your keys."

The victim, fearing for his safety, told the man "I don't have your keys."

An employee told the suspect that he should leave, and the man approached the counter with the knife raised, yelling "Where are my keys?" The man then began jerking the knife toward the employee, putting one leg over the counter and yelling, "I'm going to stab you."

The suspect then picked up a coffee pot and the employee threatened to call the police, which prompted the man to flee to restaurant.

Sheriff's deputies found the man nearby and took him into custody without incident. Deputies found a plastic bag containing methamphetamine in the man's back pant pocket.
