TOPANGA, CA — Lane closures will be in effect for several weeks on Topanga Canyon Boulevard as crews work to repair damage from a landslide.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 13, crews will implement one-way traffic control for the one-tenth of a mile stretch of the boulevard between Fernwood Pacific Drive and Grand View Drive.

The area will be under traffic control from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for a period of two to four weeks, according to Caltrans.

"The emergency project involves installing a gabion basket, a wire-mesh structure filled with rocks that acts as a retaining wall and catches debris for slope stability, along the hillside near mile marker 3.7, just north of Grand View Drive," reads a statement from Caltrans.

The work is being done in response to a landslide that occurred in late 2024. Work was postponed due to the Palisades Fire and subsequent winter storms.

The project is in addition to several other traffic controls in place on Topanga Canyon Boulevard:

  • Caltrans’ one-way traffic control section with a pilot car for four-tenths of a mile just south of Topanga, which operates from 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. daily. That stretch remains closed to the public from midnight to 5 a.m.
  • Southern California Edison's one-way traffic control from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily from Topanga Library to Happy Trail.
