Malibu Beaches Are Among The Bluest In The US, Report Finds

Latigo and Carbon beaches have among the bluest waters in the entire country, according to a new analysis.

MALIBU, CA — How blue is the water at Latigo Beach? The 12th bluest in the nation, while Carbon Beach is the 28th bluest, according to a report released Thursday.

That's based on a color analysis of 53 U.S. waterways conducted by SIXT. The car rental company matched each beach's water to the closest color Hex code, a series of numbers and letters used to produce specific colors digitally, according to a release from the company.

The nation's bluest water is at at the aptly-named Blue Hole, a lake and popular tourist destination in New Mexico. Alaska's Chena Hot Springs comes in at No. 2 and Florida’s Las Olas Beach is third, SIXT found.

The bluest water in California, at La Jolla Cove, ranks fifth nationally. Lake Tahoe, known for its crystal-clear, light-blue hues — and bumper stickers urging people to keep it that way — comes in at No. 19.
