Legacy Park Wins Water Quality Improvement Award

The environmental park has received seven major awards in the past year.

The Water Environment Federation awarded with a Water Quality Improvement Award, marking the seventh award for the park in the past year.

Legacy Park, which has also won the American Society of Civil Engineers' Project of the Year Award, was completed in October 2010, according to the City of Malibu.

"We thank the Water Environment Federation for recognizing our commitment to environmental stewardship and education," Malibu Mayor Laura Rosenthal said. "The creation of Legacy Park is one of the many ways the City has proven its dedication to helping create a cleaner environment and to protecting the health of our nearly 13,000 residents and approximately 15 million annual visitors who enjoy Malibu beaches.

The Water Quality Improvement Award recognized Malibu for improving water quality to Malibu Creek, the Malibu Lagoon and nearby beaches by capturing up to 2.6 million gallons per day of stormwater and urban runoff for treatment and disinfection, and using that captured and treated stormwater to offset potable water usage.
