Malibu Author to Share Story of How Dog Saved Him

The book "Gimme Shelter," follows Spirito's transformation as he learns how to become a calmer person and a "good" dog owner.

Chronically ticked-off writer Lou Spirito knew he had to change when his family adopted an abused pit bull with a big heart.
"To call me an angry guy would be accurate," the Malibu resident said. Spirito said his temper would frighten Tanner, who would cower at strange objects, flinch at loud noises, and vomit whenever he was stressed. "I’m a dog lover and it really brought me up short."

A book signing, talk and adoption event is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Bank of Books at the Point Dume Village on Heathercliff Road.
Additionally, 10 percent of profits from the book will go to animal rescue groups.
