MALIBU, CA — The Boys & Girls Club of Malibu on Saturday hosted its 15th annual toy drive and party to support an Oxnard school.

The annual benefit focuses on families at Fred L. Williams Elementary, a school that enrolls many families of migrant workers from Latin America, according to the Boys & Girls Club.

Attendees enjoyed a hot holiday breakfast, arts and crafts, carnival games and attractions and a special visit from Santa Claus himself. Santa handed out wrapped gifts to the younger attendees, and Waveside Church of Malibu donated $200 gift cards to a local grocery store for the adults.

"[The] majority [of students at Fred L. Williams Elementary] are children of migrant workers who work in the fields, many as seasonal workers who only stay through the harvesting season and don’t make a livable wage for the area," according to a Boys & Girls Club representative.

Oxnard has landed in the top 1 percent of the most expensive cities in the world, with an average cost of living of $6,098 per month for a family of four, according to the Boys & Girls Club.

“The holiday season is all about spending time with loved ones and cherishing special moments, and this event enables vulnerable Oxnard youth and their families to make the holidays extra special – regardless of background or financial barriers,” said Siugen Constanza, director of community affairs and outreach at the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu.
