Malibu Gives a Big Thanks to Malibu High School Principal Mark Kelly

The Malibu City Council honored Malibu High School Principal Mark Kelly, who is leaving for a position in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.

Malibu Mayor Laura Zahn Rosenthal presented a proclamation to longtime Malibu High School Principal Mark Kelly on Monday.

Kelly, who was honored for his eight years as principal at , is leaving for a position in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. He will begin serving as the Director of Student Services starting July 1.

"I’m just so grateful for all of the support, the opportunity to guide and support you,” Kelly said, speaking to past, present and future students.

He thanked the entire community for the support he has received since announcing his new position.

"This really is a special place. I really love Malibu High School. The most important part of my life was the last eight years," Kelly said.

Kelly was well known on campus for promoting the development of student leadership through student organizations.

Before coming to Malibu High School, Kelly served as the assistant principal at Santa Monica High School. He also taught educational leadership workshops at UCLA and Cal State Northridge, facilitated curriculum workshops at the Los Angeles Systemic Initiative.

He also taught math at North Hollywood High School, Richard E. Byrd Junior High School and Francisco Sepulveda Junior High School.
