Malibu To Host Free Poetry Workshops For Adults

Attendees of the 2020 Strictly Poetry Workshops will work with Malibu Poet Laureate Ellen Reich for guidance, review, support and more.

MALIBU, CA — The City of Malibu is hosting three 2020 Strictly Poetry Workshops on January 18, March 21 and May 16, 2020. The free programs will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Michael Landon Center at Malibu Bluffs Park and are open to poetry lovers and poets of all ages, the City said.

Attendees will work with Malibu Poet Laureate Ellen Reich and peers for guidance, review, support and discussion of completed poems and works in progress. Writers will have the opportunity to "learn and grow as poets in an encouraging and inspiring setting," the City of Malibu said.

"Ellen Reich has been a practicing, accomplished poet for many years and was appointed as the Malibu Poet Laureate in March 2019. Reich currently teaches creative writing and autobiography in Malibu for Emeritus College, a division of Santa Monica College, and has had numerous poems and stories published in The Los Angeles Times, Slant, Mudfish, Slipstream, ACM, Coe Review and more," the City of Malibu said. "Reich has also received multiple writing awards and was nominated for Pushcart Prizes in 2008 and 2009. The Pushcart Prize is an American literary prize published by Pushcart Press that honors the best 'poetry, short fiction, essays or literary whatnot' published in the small presses over the previous year."
