Malibu Business Owner Heading Home After Finishing Boston Marathon

Steve Arce of Malibu finished the race well before two explosions rocked the Boston Marathon near the finish line.

Jen Briggs was busy working at 9026-Eyes in Malibu when she got a phone call from Steve Arce, who had just finished running the Boston Marathon where two explosions near the race's finish line killed three people and injured scores of others.

"I don't have TV here. He told me, 'I'm fine. I want to let you know,'" Briggs recalled of the phone conversation Monday. Both Briggs and Arce own the Malibu-based luxury eyewear store at the Malibu Country Mart.

Arce, 48, finished the race in three hours and 46 minutes. The bombs struck around four hours and nine minutes into the race, near the finish line.

Arce had a 7 p.m. flight booked and was on his way home, according to Briggs.

Two other runners from Malibu, Christopher Eldridge, 24, and Tyson B. Park Sr., 71, were registered in the race.

Eldridge ran across the finish line at three hours and eight minutes. The explosions occurred as Park was still racing. He was likely one of scores of runners routed away from the blast area.
