Malibu Triathlon By The Numbers: $1.25M For CHLA, 1,757 lbs. Of Compost And More
Here's a look at some of the key numbers from the 2023 Malibu Triathlon.
MALIBU, CA — The numbers are in: This year's Malibu Triathlon raised over $1.25 million for the pediatric cancer research program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, organizers announced Tuesday.
Here's a rundown of some key numbers provided by organizers from the 38th annual Malibu Triathlon, which took place Sept. 30-Oct. 1:
- 4,000 athletes participated in the swim-bike-run
- 800+ volunteers pitched in to make the whole thing happen
- Over $1.25 million was raised for CHLA, bringing the race's total charitable contribution to the hospital to over $18 million since 2007
- A $2,500 donation will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu
- Another $2,500 will go to the Shark Fund for the Malibu Middle/Upper Schools
- 1 ton of materials were diverted from landfills thanks to the race's zero-waste efforts
- That includes 1,757 pounds of compost and 402 pounds of recycling
“This year’s race weekend was an amazing example of athletes from all over the area coming together to support worthy causes,” said Malibu Triathlon race director Brennan Lindner. “From watching the world’s best triathletes on Saturday, to the support for CHLA from our celebrity athletes and seeing the way the Malibu community rallied around the race throughout the weekend, we could not be more proud. We’re so thankful to our partners at the City of Malibu for their collaboration in making this one of our best race weekends yet.
