Mountain Road Racer's Crash Sparks Brush Fire Near Malibu: Authorities
A street racer crashed in the Santa Monica Mountains early Thursday morning, sparking a brush fire.
CALABASAS, CA — A man was rescued early Thursday morning after his car careened off a road in the Santa Monica Mountains in a street racing-related crash that sparked a one-acre brush fire, according to authorities.
Crews responded to Stunt Road and Mulholland Drive at around 1:10 a.m. in response to calls regarding a brush fire, according to Malibu Search and Rescue.
Firefighters arrived to find a quarter-acre brush fire moving uphill. Crews were able to extinguish the fire by the time it reached an acre in size, authorities said.

About an hour later, a California Highway Patrol officer heard someone yelling for help. Search and Rescue personnel discovered it was a man who was involved in the crash that sparked the fire — he was trapped on the side of a mountain, authorities said.
The crash occurred during a street race involving two other cars, authorities said.

The driver was transported to a local hospital. His name has not been released.
