Power Shutoffs Could Hit Malibu Monday
Much of Malibu was on alert for power outages as strong wind gusts created increased wildfire risk.

MALIBU, CA — Much of Malibu was on alert for power outages Monday to avoid wildfire.
Much of Malibu from Dan Blocker County Beach to Sycamore Cove Beach could see see Public Safety Power Shutoffs Sunday evening and Monday, according to Southern California Edison. The potential shutoffs were along the Cuthbert and Galahand circuits and were expected to occur between 9 p.m. Sunday and 12 p.m. Monday.
As of Monday morning, there were no active power outages in Malibu.

Power Safety Shutoffs are proactive power outages to avoid wildfires in potentially dangerous weather conditions, according to SCE. Malibu on Monday was expected to see significant wind gusts through 3 p.m., the National Weather Service warned. North to northeast winds between 15 and 25 miles per hour would hit the Malibu coast with gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
An SCE crew was parked at Malibu Bluffs Park, located at 24250 Pacific Coast (1) Highway, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. or until outages finished.

Malibu Elementary, Middle and High Schools could all be affected by the potential outages, but school was still scheduled as normal on Monday, according to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Parents were advised to download the SMMUSD mobile app and follow Malibu Schools Pathway on Twitter. Parents were also advised to make sure their phone numbers were on file with their schools for emergency text messages.
