Public Hearing Set on Planned Improvements to Malibu High School
The plans call for a new library, classrooms and administrative offices as well more parking spaces, tennis courts and other renovations.
The public will have a chance to weigh in on plans for improvements at next month.
The Malibu Planning Commission will consider a request by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District for several permits and a variance for the plans at its Aug. 7 meeting at .
The plans call for new classrooms, a library, computer and science labs and an administrative building, totaling 20,274 square feet, according to a notice of public hearing posted on the City of Malibu's website.

The main building would also include "green roofs," which are meant to reduce storm water runoff and provide an outdoor learning space, according to the SMMUSD website.
The plans also include a new 150-space lighted parking lot; a reconfigured 119-space lighted parking lot; and a reconfigured 61-space lighted parking lot and a new student drop-off area. The new parking lot could be completed as early as 2013.

New tennis courts, common areas and upgrades to the school's onsite wastewater treatment system are also in the plans.

The project is separate from the , which recently received the green light, with some modifications, from the Malibu City Counci.
