Right in front of our Eyes and Noses

In my opinion being "American" is all about looking out for your own interests, for your own generation, and sadly, for your own race. It's not about looking out for the interests of your country or your neighbor or future generations yet unborn and their quality of life, air quality, freedoms, sustainability, etc.. Patriotism is no longer about the entire country (and maybe it never was). Those waving the flag the most are most likely to be less concerned with the country as a whole. To me, patriotism should be about America and it's welfare, fairness, justice, integrity, as a whole. It should be about the health and welfare and education, etc., of all 320 million. Instead, too many of us are just seeing America as an exercise in "what can you do for me".

In consistent polling Americans are showing, in many cases overwhelmingly, that they want things from their government that the politicians aren't willing to support or act on.

Here is a partial list of what American citizens have been asking for for years:

More affordable pharmaceuticals: (as per a bill brought up in Congress 2 years ago that would allow Americans to import much cheaper drugs from Canada. (1/10 as expensive in some cases). For example, Dem. Senator Cory Booker who, it has been reported, has taken more money from Big Pharma than any other politician, voted "NO" to this bill saying that "we can't be sure of the quality of drugs from Canada". That sounds like it was scripted for him by Big Pharma.

The Congress has refused to allow much cheaper pharmaceuticals from Canada come in in order to help U.S. pharmaceutical companies maintain their monopoly; that doesn’t sound too “American”. What true American would take money to prop up the interests of a few rich corporations at the expense of the “American” population at large. These same corporations will think nothing of shielding their income in foreign bank accounts in order to avoid paying their fair share in taxes. The politicians take contributions from them and then those politicians vote to force Americans to pay staggeringly high pharmaceutical costs. The pharmaceutical companies pay the Congress to protect their interests, not ours. Thats not patriotism. Thats not being an American. That’s the way the mafia works.

Medicare For All (single payer healthcare). The most recent poll had 69% of ALL Americans in support of it and 80% of Democrats. Big, powerful and rich insurance companies can pay politicians limitless amounts of money to get them to vote on behalf of their interests, not ours. Isn’t that how the Mafia works?

Most recently there was a vote among the DNC as to what position they would take on Medicare For All. In spite of 80% support by its constituents the DNC voted 128 - 35 to reject Medicare for All as a platform position.
How can a group expect to get support from its members when the group doesn’t respect and listen to and endorse the wishes of its members? It stands up for those who can give them the most money.

Sensible Gun laws including basic background checks. The overwhelming majority of Americans support more legislature re: background checks and registration. The NRA can pay politicians limitless amounts of money to get them to vote against our interests and in favor of theirs.

Free college tuition and the elimination of student debt. 58% of eligible voters say they would support free college tuition and the elimination of student debt.

Cutting the Defense Budget: 67% of all Americans and 90% of Democrats support a decrease in the Defense Budget according to (3) non profit studies. Incredibly powerful defense contractors can pay politicians limitless amounts of money to vote for defense budget increases.

I'm not even bringing up the power of the Fossil Fuel industry which fights any restrictions on emissions and lobbies against renewable energy sources consistently.

This is a very small and partial list of policies where the overwhelming majority of Americans strongly support a position and the U.S. Congress votes in the opposite direction as a result of bribes taken from Big Business and other special interest groups. They do not represent Americans but they represent Corporations.

It is my strong opinion that the Congress of the United States is just a money laundering operation where the will and interests of the American people are almost completely disregarded unless those politicians feel that they might lose re-election as a result of rejecting the desires of their constituents. All politicians are looking out for themselves first and foremost....their constituents are merely a nuisance and people they have to placate with lies and deception.

Why don’t Americans demand from their politicians that they do not take corporate money into their campaign. We elect people who take tons of money from corporate donors.

Bernie Sanders is the only politician in Washington who has refused to take corporate money. why is that? Why isn’t that the standard for all?

The richer and more powerful corporations and select individuals get, the less likely any legislation will be enacted that helps those who are not rich and powerful. Then, you can suppress voting tactically through an infinite number of protocol and invite foreign intervention into our election process and the whole idea of democracy that was instigated by our Constitution is completely irrelevant and extinct.

We don't seem to be paying attention to how things are going. We just seem to want to buy more skin moisturizer and watch Netflix.

Can’t we all agree that everything in our society is at the hands of the highest bidder?

Justice, Science, Truth, and virtually all policies can be bought.
