NWS Predicts High Surf, Rip Currents

South- and southwest-facing beaches, such as Zuma Beach, are most vulnerable.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to include information from a high surf advisory issued Friday evening.

High surf is expected along south- and southwest-facing beaches in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, including along Zuma Beach in Malibu, through Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The highest surf will occur late Friday night and gradually subside through Saturday, according to the NWS. The high surf advisory expires at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Waves 4-7 feet tall with local sets up to 10 feet high are predicted.

"A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion," according to the NWS.

In addition to the high surf advisory, a beach hazards statement was issued earlier Friday concerning rip currents on south- and southwest-facing beaches, like Zuma, Point Mugu and near Point Dume. The beach hazards statement was set to expire at 11 p.m. Friday.
