Second Rally Planned to Save Point Pizza

Protesters will hold a second rally this week to speak out against the replacement of Point Pizza with D'Amore's Pizza in Malibu.

The protest outside of D'Amore's at 22601 Pacific Coast Highway is set for 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.

Last week, some 300 protesters rallied outside of Point Pizza at the Point Dume Village on Heathercliff Road and Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Point Pizza, which is owned by Hye Song Oh, is scheduled to close in December when its lease expires.

Hye Song Oh has said she wants to stay at the location. Marquis has said he wanted to bring in a new local operator as part of an effort to bring healthier options to the center.

The Point Pizza ownership has said they offered healthier options over the years.

Some protesters have asked that D'Amore's and the Point Village Owner Zan Marquis tear up the lease and keep Point Pizza in business. 

Earlier this week, the D'Amore's Team, which is out of town in Boston for a funeral, released a statement explaining they had no intention to go behind Hye Song Oh's back when it agreed to open a new location in Point Pizza's space.

"We thankfully embrace the many people who have expressed their excitement at seeing us move into the center and will continue to make the best food we know how," the statement read.

Organizers of the protest asked participants to remain peaceful and park on the roof above PC Greens.
