Senior Reflections: The Impact of Malibu High School Sports

Will Rosenthal will attend the University of Oregon this fall.

By Will Rosenthal

To put it simply, sports have been my life for the last ten years. Now that I am done with competitive sports, I can reflect on how big of an impact they have had on my life.

Beginning with golf, where I learned proper etiquette and how to be respectful, and on to basketball, where I learned that effort can take you much farther than skill, sports have made me the person I am today. The athletic program at MHS was a big part of my high school life and filled my after school hours with fun and hard work.

Being in a small school, my activities also influenced the people I was always around. My lacrosse teammates were like my brothers, filled with people who I regularly see on the weekend. The same goes for my basketball teams, filled with people that I love. Knowing each other so well, we would add extra workouts and practices on the weekends just to hang together and have fun.

Malibu High School, and not only athletics, has made me a better person in every facet of my life. When I attend the University of Oregon next fall, I know that all of the knowledge that high school has given me, in the classroom and on the field, will guide me to be very successful.

I was given the chance, and support, to succeed at MHS and that will follow me at the next level. What I am trying to say with all this is that although sports may just seem like games, I have gained so much knowledge, pride, and determination from simply being a part of this school and these games.

Senior Reflections is a series written by Malibu High School seniors looking back on the impact of their four years at the high school.
