Three City Council Seats Up for Grab in Malibu; Nomination Period Begins
Both council members Joan House and Sibert are termed out and only Mayor Pro Tem Skylar Peak is eligible for reelection.

MALIBU, CA — People who want to run for the Malibu City Council seat have from now until Aug. 12 to file the necessary paperwork, the city announced.
Three council seats are up for election. Both council members Joan House and Sibert are termed out and only Mayor Pro Tem Skylar Peak is eligible for reelection, should he decide to run again.
The next Malibu General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8. This will be the first local election to coincide with the statewide General Election since the City Council changed the local election date in an effort to increase voter participation.

“Malibu residents care deeply about the matters that impact our community, and participating in the election is one of the most important ways to make their voice and vision heard,” Mayor Lou La Monte said. “Unfortunately, we still have low voter participation. By changing the election date, we hope to make it more convenient for Malibu residents to participate in the democratic process.”
In May 2015, the Council voted to consolidate the City elections with the statewide general election in November of even years.
