Top 5 Malibu Stories: John Clark Gable Crash, Councilman Peak, Crummer Property

Here are the top stories from Malibu Patch from March 31-April 6.

Close out your weekend with a recap of the newsiest and most popular Malibu Patch articles from last week. Here are the five stories that topped the headlines on Malibu Patch:

  • Tuesday in Malibu on suspicion of driving under the influence, striking six cars and damaging a garage door on Pacific Coast Highway near Las Flores Road. Malibu Patch's blogger, Fireball Tim Lawrence, was near the scene and captured photos of Gable's arrest. No one was injured in the crash and Gable remains free on $50,000 bail.
  • An attorney for Malibu Councilman Skylar Peak pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges on behalf of his client at the Malibu Court House Wednesday. Peak was not present, which is common for misdemeanor cases. Prosecutors have offered Peak a plea deal, but his attorney did not divulge the details. The councilman is due back in court on April 24.
  • The stakes are high for both the city of Malibu and owners of the Crummer property, where there are plans to build five homes, near Bluffs Park in Malibu. A draft environmental impact report was released Wednesday. Robert Gold, a partner and project manager, said $1 million is being given to the city of Malibu for the development of recreation facilities on a dedicated 1.74 acres. The project has a long road ahead (and up to an additional $2 million in mitigation fees) before it gets the green light from both the city of Malibu and the California Coastal Commission. Due to inconsistencies in Malibu's Local Coastal Program (LCP), the California Coastal Commission is requiring a LCP amendment.
  • A tree fell onto Pacific Coast Highway near Geoffrey's in Malibu on Thursday. A Malibu Patch reader, Mr. Malibu, captured a photo of the fallen tree, which was removed within an hour or so.
  • The singing group Cimorelli released a poster announcing the dates for two upcoming concerts benefiting the family of a tow truck driver who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Malibu in February. One of the six sisters, Katherine Cimorelli, was on the side of the highway when the crash occurred. On Monday, the Malibu City Council is expected to waive $830 in fees for the Malibu concert at Bluffs Park. Learn more about the Newbury Park concert here and the Malibu event here.
