Volunteers Needed to Help With Post-Fire Maintenance, Repair
The Post-Fire Volunteer Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 22.

The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and California State Parks will host a "Post-Fire Volunteer Day" on June 22.
The Saturday event, which will begin at 8 a.m. and go until noon, offers two volunteer projects: a watering project and trail maintenance in the areas affected by the Springs Fire in early May.
Volunteers will meet at Rancho Sierra Vista in Newbury Park.
As part of the watering project, volunteers will help "restoration ecologists water newly planted natives in the riparian area at Rancho Sierra Vista," according to NPS. The project will involve a one-mile walk, and volunteers must be 10 years of age or older.
"These areas are more critical than ever since the fire," according to NPS.
Volunteers will repair trails in Sycamore Canyon as part of the second project. Participants in this project, who must be at least 18 years of age, will hike 3-4 miles and perform "strenuous work involving tools."
"Most trail damage is not directly from the fire, but is within the burn perimeter," according to NPS.
Volunteers must RSVP by June 19 via the online form. Up to 120 volunteers can participate.
People who have trouble registering can call Cathy Schoonmaker at 805-370-2383.
The Springs Fire burned 24,000 acres—mostly in the Santa Monica Mountains—and threatened the city of Malibu.
