Where To Find A Cooling Center In Malibu Amid Extreme Heat Wave

The city offered a number of spaces for residents to cool down as temperatures skyrocket across Los Angeles County.

MALIBU, CA — As temperatures soar across Los Angeles, the city of Malibu offered cooling centers for residents.

Southern California continued to bake Wednesday under sweltering conditions that are expected to stretch through the Labor Day weekend — with excessive heat warnings in effect across the region.

The protracted heat wave began pushing up temperatures Tuesday, marking the onset of an expected weeklong period of oppressive conditions. The forecast has prompted calls for residents to take precautions against heat stroke and to conserve power whenever possible, with state officials warning of possible strain on California's electrical grid.

In Malibu, temperatures were expected to climb over 91 by the holiday weekend. Wednesday kicked off the heat wave, pushing Malibu into the mid-80s through Saturday. By Sunday, Malibu was expected to see a high of 91 degrees.

The Malibu Library and Topanga Library will both serve as cooling centers for local residents from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, according to the city of Malibu. The Michael Landon Community Center at Bluffs Park will also serve as a cooling center during the same times.
