Woman Hoisted to Safety From 300 Feet Over Malibu Canyon Road

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

A 79-year-old woman suffered a back injury when her vehicle went over the side of Malibu Canyon Road Sunday.

The crash was reported at 3:55 p.m. Sunday on Malibu Canyon Road, south of the tunnel, according to Capt. David Katz, who is a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Malibu Search and Rescue.

Arriving Malibu SAR members spotted a silver vehicle nearly 300 feet over the side of the road, and rappelled down into the canyon, Katz said.

The woman was taken by a Los Angels County Fire helicopter to the UCLA Medical Center for treatment of a back injury, he said.
